Frequently asked questions

Do you offer photography AND videography packages?

For the time being, I find that I am able to offer the very best level of service by focussing on either photography OR videography, rather than both. I can however recommend other photographers and videographers who have a similar style and approach to myself and whom I know I work well with.

How does it work on the day? Do we have to pose or set aside time?

Your wedding day is the biggest and most special day of your life and I want you to be fully-immersed in each and every single second. This is your big day, a celebration of love, not a photo/film shoot.

My goal is to blend in and become one of your guests so that I can film real moments as they happen in a discreet and natural way.

Before the wedding we will discuss what sort of couple portraits and groups shots you might like, and agree on a time to shoot them.

When will you send us our wedding photos/films?

In a nutshell: as soon as I can possibly can. Typically this takes anywhere between 6 and 12 weeks, though I can be quicker or slower depending on the time of year. Perfection can’t be rushed, as the old adage goes.

Do we need to feed you?

If you can then that would be very much appreciated as it will keep me fuelled up for a very long day (typically around 12-15 hours with driving time factored in as well). If however you’re on a tight budget, I would understand if this wasn’t possible. But please let me know in advance so I can bring something to eat without having to leave your venue.

What time do you arrive and leave on the day?

Every wedding is different, but generally speaking I would want to be with you about 2-3 hours before your ceremony. I finish around 30 minutes after your first dance. If you have anything planned later in the evening, please let me know in advance and we can make a plan together.

Can you capture us both getting ready on the morning of our wedding?

I always make a huge effort to make this happen. If you’re both getting ready in the same location then I will definitely be able to capture you both getting ready. If you’re getting ready in different locations then I will try to arrange it so that I can visit you both, though this depends on how far apart you will be. But we will discuss this in fine detail ahead of your big day and come up with a plan together.

What happens if you get ill or can’t make it on the day?

In the highly unlikely event that I am unable able to make it to your wedding, whether due to illness, injury, or any other reason, I would arrange for another photographer or videographer to take my place on the day. I would however still edit your photos/films.

What if you haven’t shot at the our wedding venue before?

Not a problem at all. I love shooting at new venues and find it inspiring and exciting. I use the same camera setup for ceremonies and speeches so wouldn’t need to visit the property beforehand. I would of course carry out my own research, spending some time on the venue’s website, and seeking out photos and films from other weddings to get a feel for the space and if/how I might need to adapt.

Can we choose the music for our film/s?

Music licensing laws make this a lot trickier than you might imagine. For example, you might choose your favourite song to walk down the aisle to, or for your first dance. But in most cases it will be illegal to use these songs within your film/s, with the risk that the record label would be within their rights to take action through a civil or criminal court. For this reason I pay for a music library of music that I can use legally.

Note: It's important to keep in mind how and why I use music. It's not simply a case of editing the film and then slapping a song or two over the top. I actually choose the music before I even think about editing the footage (typically around 4-5 songs per film - this can literally take days to get right) and then edit each and every clip to each of those tracks. My music choice is how I control the pacing of the film, flowing through different sequences so that it feels natural, seamless, and also cinematic.

Are your wedding photography/videography packages flexible/customisable?

Yes, absolutely. Every wedding and couple is different and I am always open to discussing different ideas. Whether you want “extra x” or “less y”, I am open to requests and always happy to give a bespoke quote.

Some couples, for example, prefer not to have their voices in the highlight film, while others prefer to include less of the morning prep and more of the evening celebrations. Just let me know and we will come up with a plan together.

How much is the deposit?

I ask for a booking deposit fee of £350 to secure your date. This is non-refundable in the case that you cancel for any reason, but I would of course refund the full amount if I were to cancel (though this has never ever happened). Once this is paid I will be officially all booked up and yours for your big day! The balance is then due 30 days before your wedding date.

Do you travel to weddings outside of Wales?

I do! I used to be a full time travel writer and photographer/filmmaker and adore shooting in new destinations, whether within the UK or abroad. Depending on how far away your wedding venue is from where I live, I may add an amount to cover fuel/flights and accommodation if needed. But we would of course discuss this in detail and I promise never to added any “surprise” fees.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, I’m fully insured through Policy Bee.

Can we have the raw video footage?

Yes, for a fee of £350 I will put all of the raw video clips and audio files on a hard drive/USB stick and send everything to you in the post. However, I will always advise you on whether I think this will add value to you or not. For example, if you order my Platinum package with a teaser, extended cinematic feature edit, plus ceremony and speeches in full, it might be overkill to also order the raw footage. But we can discuss this.

Note: The raw footage files would be included individually and would require professional video editing software to be colour graded and edited. These files are huge, cinema-quality clips and not viewable without editing first. In other words, they’re not like the video clips you may used to be editing and sharing from your phone.
